The 4-Hour Body

The 4-Hour Body: An Uncommon Guide to Rapid Fat-Loss, Incredible Sex, and Becoming Superhuman

Thinner, bigger, faster, stronger... which 150 pages will you read?

Is it possible to:
Reach your genetic potential in 6 months?
Sleep 2 hours per day and perform better than on 8 hours?
Lose more fat than a marathoner by bingeing?

Indeed, and much more. This is not just another diet and fitness book.

The 4-Hour Body is the result of an obsessive quest, spanning more than a decade, to hack the human body. It contains the collective wisdom of hundreds of elite athletes, dozens of MDs, and thousands of hours of jaw-dropping personal experimentation. From Olympic training centers to black-market laboratories, from Silicon Valley to South Africa, Tim Ferriss, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The 4-Hour Workweek, fixated on one life-changing question:

For all things physical, what are the tiniest changes that produce the biggest results?

Thousands of tests later, this book contains the answers for both men and women.

From the gym to the bedroom, it’s all here, and it all works.

YOU WILL LEARN (in less than 30 minutes each):
How to lose those last 5-10 pounds (or 100+ pounds) with odd combinations of food and safe chemical cocktails.

* How to prevent fat gain while bingeing (X-mas, holidays, weekends)
* How to increase fat-loss 300% with a few bags of ice
* How Tim gained 34 pounds of muscle in 28 days, without steroids, and in four hours of total gym time
* How to sleep 2 hours per day and feel fully rested
* How to produce 15-minute female orgasms
* How to triple testosterone and double sperm count
* How to go from running 5 kilometers to 50 kilometers in 12 weeks
* How to reverse “permanent” injuries
* How to add 150+ pounds to your lifts in 6 months
* How to pay for a beach vacation with one hospital visit

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. There are more than 50 topics covered, all with real-world experiments, many including more than 200 test subjects.

You don't need better genetics or more discipline. You need immediate results that compel you to continue.

That’s exactly what The 4-Hour Body delivers.

Costumer Review The 4-Hour Body
By :Michelle (California)

This book packs a lot of information within it's pages, and if you just have a seat and read it, it can be very overwhelming!

I think what a lot of people who've left negative reviews here fail to realize is that Tim DOES give conflicting advice throughout the book because each section of the book is devoted to different goals. If you are working towards fat-loss, you will be doing something different (which some reviewers see as "conflicting") than if you are working towards muscle building.

To have success with the book? Identify one single goal to work towards and apply Tim's program. I've started following his slow-carb diet (& started a forum for folks doing the same to support each other at slowcarbrevolution.com). I'm on week one, I'm really tired of beans, which I don't care for, but I am never hungry and losing weight. So the diet is working for me as Tim describes.

When it's time to add muscle or build strength, I'll review those chapters and follow that advice - new goal, new techniques. Simple enough!

A Stolen Life

Biographies & Memoirs

Book Description

In the summer of 1991 I was a normal kid. I did normal things. I had friends and a mother who loved me. I was just like you. Until the day my life was stolen.

For eighteen years I was a prisoner. I was an object for someone to use and abuse.

For eighteen years I was not allowed to speak my own name. I became a mother and was forced to be a sister. For eighteen years I survived an impossible situation.

On August 26, 2009, I took my name back. My name is Jaycee Lee Dugard. I don’t think of myself as a victim. I survived.

A Stolen Life is my story—in my own words, in my own way, exactly as I remember it.

The pine cone is a symbol that represents the seed of a new beginning for me. To help facilitate new beginnings, with the support of animal-assisted therapy, the J A Y C Foundation provides support and services for the timely treatment of families recovering from abduction and the aftermath of traumatic experiences—families like my own who need to learn how to heal. In addition, the J A Y C Foundation hopes to facilitate awareness in schools about the important need to care for one another.

Our motto is “Just Ask Yourself to . . . Care!”

A portion of my proceeds from this memoir will be donated to The J A Y C Foundation Inc.

The 17 Day Diet: A Doctor's Plan Designed for Rapid Results

The 17 Day Diet: A Doctor's Plan Designed for Rapid Results

“We’ve all pledged, promised and bullied ourselves to eat better and exercise more, but so many times even the best intentions fall short. I incorporate healthy habits into my work and home life and you can too.” –Dr. Mike Moreno

If you need to shed pounds fast and in a safe, effective, and lasting way, this is the book for you! Unlike many diet programs that starve you down to size, Dr. Mike Moreno’s 17 Day Diet relies on proven methods to help you take weight off and keep it off for good—whether you’ve got 10 pounds to lose or 100. His revolutionary program adjusts your body metabolically so that you burn fat day in and day out. The program is structured around four 17 day cycles:

Accelerate—the rapid weight loss portion that helps flush sugar and fat storage from your system

Activate—the metabolic restart portion with alternating low and high calorie days to help shed body fat

Achieve—this phase is about learning to control portions and introducing new fitness routines

Arrive—a combination of the first three cycles to keep good habits up for good. On weekends, enjoy your favorite foods!

Each cycle changes your calorie count and the food that you’re eating. The variation that Dr. Mike calls ‘body confusion’ keeps your metabolism guessing; this means that you can expect big changes in the first 17 days alone!

This is not a diet that relies on a tiny list of approved foods, grueling exercise routines, or unrealistic calorie counts that leave you hungry and unfulfilled. Moderation and proper portions are key factors in the 17 Day Diet—the trick is to figure out the foods and routines that work best with your real lifestyle. That’s why the book is filled with tips for how to avoid the usual food pitfalls like holidays, eating out, or even just a tempting candy jar. Along with a comprehensive explanation of how each segment works, every phase comes with an extensive list of foods, recipes, and sample meal plans to help make grocery shopping a breeze. Because of the diversity that you are allowed from the very beginning of the program, there is a way to make this diet work with almost any food allergies you might have or what cuisine you’re used to eating.

The 17 Day Diet is a simple plan that gets big, long-lasting results if you stick with it and let Dr. Mike help you along the way. Whether this is your first attempt at dieting or your fiftieth, you must believe that you can do this. What matters now is focusing on your goals, identifying what you need to get there, and taking action to begin the process. Your health and happiness are important, so stand strong, believe in yourself, and let your 17 Day Diet begin now!

Dr. Michael Rafael Moreno, better known as “Dr. Mike,” is a graduate of the University of California at Irvine and Hahnemann Medical School (now Drexel University). Following his residency at Kaiser Permanente in Fontana, California, Dr. Mike moved to San Diego, where he now practices family medicine and sits on the board of the San Diego Chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians. In 2008, Dr. Mike launched “Walk with Your Doc,” which he participates in every Tuesday and Thursday morning before his workday begins. The program began when Dr. Mike offered to walk with a patient to motivate her to exercise and has since grown into a thriving community Dr. Mike takes pride in being viewed not only as a doctor, but also as a friend and confidant.

By :J. R. Hanratty "Jericho_Books" (Comanche, OK USA)

This is a great book. I disagree with the other reviewers. If you can change a eating habit for fifty bucks, that is a good trade. Going to a diet center or doctor would cost much more.
The diet is based on healthy protein and no processed carbs. No junk. Anyone can do this for 17 days, and my then it is a habit. I plan on eating this way all the time now.

The book is easy to follow and well organized. I love the workout CD too. It is only 15 minutes.

If you struggle with weight issues-this is the book you will not regret getting.

The Aging Myth

The Aging Myth: Unlocking the Mysteries of Looking and Feeling Young

Costumer Review The Aging Myth: Unlocking the Mysteries of Looking and Feeling Young
By :John Freeman "JF, Philosophiae Doctor" (El Cajon, CA)

How can you be youthful when you die? It seems a paradox. Dr. Chang of Portsmouth University in England wants to deconstruct the myth that aging the way we know it is unavoidable. Chang offers an alternative that is as reasonable as it is controversial.

His basic premise is based on a new paradigm in genetic science that says it's not what you're born with that matters, it's how you use that genetic makeup. It's the quintessential nurture over nature argument and I'm on board. The Aging Myth book is interesting, not terribly scientific (for those who object to lingo), but has some metaphysical leanings, which could deter other readers.

Chang has had honest motivation to figure out the fountain of youth. His father died from a chronic illness after a long, painful bout. The result is a great deal of research and analysis of the topic of aging.

The Original Argument-Glenn Beck

The Original Argument
The Federalists' Case for the Constitution

Product Description
Glenn Beck revisited Thomas Paine’s famous pre-Revolutionary War call to action in his #1 New York Times bestseller Glenn Beck’s Common Sense. Now he brings his historical acumen and political savvy to this fresh, new interpretation of The Federalist Papers, the 18th-century collection of political essays that defined and shaped our Constitution and laid bare the “original argument” between states’ rights and big federal government—a debate as relevant and urgent today as it was at the birth of our nation.

Adapting a selection of these essential essays—pseudonymously authored by the now well-documented triumvirate of Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay—for a contemporary audience, Glenn Beck has had them reworked into “modern” English so as to be thoroughly accessible to anyone seeking a better understanding of the Founding Fathers’ intent and meaning when laying the groundwork of our government. Beck provides his own illuminating commentary and annotations and, for a number of the essays, has brought together the viewpoints of both liberal and conservative historians and scholars, making this a fair and insightful perspective on the historical works that remain the primary source for interpreting Constitutional law and the rights of American citizens.

Customer Review The Original Argument: The Federalists' Case for the Constitution, Adapted for the 21st Century
By :J. Garton

Glenn Beck, has a unique ability to simplify things and deliver a message that spark thought and action. If I had to sum up the gift and calling that Glenn has exhibited in his career, I would say, Glenn has a love for traditions and principals and a desire to deliver these treasures to the nation in the language and thought process of today.

You may have read the Federalist Papers in the past, but this book will shed new light and greater understanding. The book provides clarification of the founding fathers original intent, and will open your eyes to how far our current government has strayed from its constitutional boundaries.

I highly recommend the book.

The Miracle of Freedom: Seven Tipping Points That Saved the World

The Miracle of Freedom: Seven Tipping Points That Saved the World

Product Description
How unusual is it, really, in the history of all known human experience, to enjoy the blessings of living free? The answer may surprise you. In The Miracle of Freedom, Chris and Ted Stewart make a strong case that fewer than 5 percent of all people who have ever lived on the earth have lived under conditions that we could consider free. So where did freedom come from, and how are we fortunate enough to experience it in our day? A deeper look at the human record, write the authors, reveals a series of critical events, obvious forks in the road leading to very different outcomes, that resulted in this extraordinary period in which we live. They identify and discuss seven decisive tipping points: 1. The defeat of the Assyrians in their quest to destroy the kingdom of Judah 2. The victory of the Greeks over the Persians at Thermopylae and Salamis 3. Roman Emperor Constantine's conversion to Christianity 4. The defeat of the armies of Islam at Poitiers 5. The failure of the Mongols in their effort to conquer Europe 6. The discovery of the New World 7. The Battle of Britain in World War II The journey to freedom has been thousands of years long. Now that it has found its place in the world, the question for those of us who experience its benefits is simply this: Will we work to preserve the miracle of freedom that we enjoy today?

Customer Review The Miracle of Freedom: Seven Tipping Points That Saved the World
By :Jim Danielson (Liberty, MO United States)

This is one of most thought-provoking books that I have read in a long time.

I believe that we are at a "tipping point" in history. What happens in the next few years will have a major impact for many generations to come.

It is true that freedom isn't free.

It is also true that freedom doesn't just evolve or just happen.

The authors make a convincing case for seven tipping points that saved the world for freedom. The key question, is which way will number eight tip?

The Help

The Help [Kindle Edition]

In writing about such a troubled time in American history, Southern-born Stockett takes a big risk, one that paid off enormously. Critics praised Stockett's skillful depiction of the ironies and hypocrisies that defined an era, without resorting to depressing or controversial clich√©s. Rather, Stockett focuses on the fascinating and complex relationships between vastly different members of a household. Additionally, reviewers loved (and loathed) Stockett's three-dimensional characters—and cheered and hissed their favorites to the end. Several critics questioned Stockett's decision to use a heavy dialect solely for the black characters. Overall, however, The Help is a compassionate, original story, as well as an excellent choice for book groups.

Costumer Review
By :Karen M. Gallo "KMG55" (Pawcatuck, CT United States)

I was lucky enough to come across an advanced reader copy of this The Help book. Set in Mississippi during the civil rights movement, the story is narrated by the three principal characters...Minny and Aibileen, two black maids, and Miss Skeeter, a young, white woman newly graduated from college. The characters are wonderfully developed, as are the historical background and setting. As each character took her turn at narrating, she became my favorite character until the next one took over again.I was torn between not being able to put the book down and not wanting it to end.

George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones 4-Book Boxed Set

George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones 4-Book Boxed Set: A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, and A Feast for Crows

Product Description
A NEW ORIGINAL SERIES, NOW ON HBO.

George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series has become, in many ways, the gold standard for modern epic fantasy. Martin—dubbed the “American Tolkien” by Time magazine—has created a world that is as rich and vital as any piece of historical fiction, set in an age of knights and chivalry and filled with a plethora of fascinating, multidimensional characters that you love, hate to love, or love to hate as they struggle for control of a divided kingdom. It is this very vitality that has led it to be adapted as the HBO miniseries “Game of Thrones.”

This boxed set includes the following novels:
A GAME OF THRONES
A CLASH OF KINGS
A STORM OF SWORDS
A FEAST FOR CROWS

Costumer Review
By :Chandizzle (Rochester, NY)

These books are excellent. I bought the box set from Amazon at a great price, but when I got the books, they were really small, so I borrowed my brothers nook with the books on it to read them. For anyone that doesn't like to read small print, or that has adult sized hands, I would suggest finding these in another format. Maybe borrow an ebook from someone on your nook or kindle...

The books are great though! Please ignore the people complaining about the price giving the books bad reviews, they don't realize that they are rating the product and not the seller, when will Amazon start banning these crap reviews rating the sellers?

I'm not a big fan of fantasy books, but I saw the series for these on HBO and it was really good, so I wanted to read the books which are always better than the TV as they have more details. There is a lot of sexual content in these, so they are not for kids, but for the adult reader I would highly recommend them since the story is a great story and it keeps you hooked.

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games

Editorial Reviews
Starred Review. SignatureReviewed by Megan Whalen TurnerIf there really are only seven original plots in the world, it's odd that boy meets girl is always mentioned, and society goes bad and attacks the good guy never is. Yet we have Fahrenheit 451, The Giver, The House of the Scorpion—and now, following a long tradition of Brave New Worlds, The Hunger Games. Collins hasn't tied her future to a specific date, or weighted it down with too much finger wagging. Rather less 1984 and rather more Death Race 2000, hers is a gripping story set in a postapocalyptic world where a replacement for the United States demands a tribute from each of its territories: two children to be used as gladiators in a televised fight to the death.Katniss, from what was once Appalachia, offers to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, but after this ultimate sacrifice, she is entirely focused on survival at any cost. It is her teammate, Peeta, who recognizes the importance of holding on to one's humanity in such inhuman circumstances. It's a credit to Collins's skill at characterization that Katniss, like a new Theseus, is cold, calculating and still likable. She has the attributes to be a winner, where Peeta has the grace to be a good loser. It's no accident that these games are presented as pop culture. Every generation projects its fear: runaway science, communism, overpopulation, nuclear wars and, now, reality TV. The State of Panem—which needs to keep its tributaries subdued and its citizens complacent—may have created the Games, but mindless television is the real danger, the means by which society pacifies its citizens and punishes those who fail to conform. Will its connection to reality TV, ubiquitous today, date the book? It might, but for now, it makes this the right book at the right time. What happens if we choose entertainment over humanity? In Collins's world, we'll be obsessed with grooming, we'll talk funny, and all our sentences will end with the same rise as questions. When Katniss is sent to stylists to be made more telegenic before she competes, she stands naked in front of them, strangely unembarrassed. They're so unlike people that I'm no more self-conscious than if a trio of oddly colored birds were pecking around my feet, she thinks. In order not to hate these creatures who are sending her to her death, she imagines them as pets. It isn't just the contestants who risk the loss of their humanity. It is all who watch.Katniss struggles to win not only the Games but the inherent contest for audience approval. Because this is the first book in a series, not everything is resolved, and what is left unanswered is the central question. Has she sacrificed too much? We know what she has given up to survive, but not whether the price was too high. Readers will wait eagerly to learn more.Megan Whalen Turner is the author of the Newbery Honor book The Thief and its sequels, The Queen of Attolia and The King of Attolia.

Costumer Review The Hunger Games
By :Jay R. Chase (Houston, Texas)

It took me a while to get to this The Hunger Games book because I never saw it out of my two daughters' hands. They devoured it! Once I read it, I understood. This is the second book I have reviewed this month that had a powerful female protagonist (other being 'Graceling').

I found The Hunger Games book to be well written with a fantastic pacing. Their is violence in there, but not so over the top as to be distracting. Intimate scenes are sparingly written so as not to be too embarassing (something I greatly appreciated as a dad!!) The rage against the system theme is prevalent enough to notice, but not as overbearing as say.... Ayn Rand or Terry Pratchett.

All in all, I highly recommend this book for kids from 12 up. The ending leads me to believe that this will be a series. I imagine I will be pre-ordering as soon as it's available. Congratulation Ms. Collins!!

All the best,

Jay

A LITTLE DEATH IN DIXIE is a very well written novel that includes plenty of those quirky, unique to the South characters that make a good mystery even better. I was so immersed in the story that I often felt that I was standing in the middle of a movie scene--Lisa Turner's descriptive powers and attention to detail are that good. Her references to real Memphis "characters", businesses, and landmarks kept me, again, right in the middle of the fast paced action. A true homerun for Ms. Turner's first novel!

Go the Fuck to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don't always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. Profane, affectionate, and radically honest, California Book Award-winning author Adam Mansbach's verses perfectly capture the familiar--and unspoken--tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, they open up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations, and laugh at their absurdity.

With illustrations by Ricardo Cortes, Go the Fuck to Sleep is beautiful, subversive, and pants-wettingly funny--a book for parents new, old, and expectant. You probably should not read it to your children.
